Every Year International Animation Day is observed on October 28th to recognise and celebrate the artists and technicians behind animated movies. The IAD is an important global event to highlight the art of animation. This day commemorates the first public performance of Charles Emile Reynand’s Theatre Optique at the Grevin Museum in Paris, 1892. The International Animated Film Association proclaimed the International Animation Day (IAD) in 2002.

As a part of GRA Bootcamp, we had held a Caricature Contest over the span of last month to celebrate the spirit of animation in a different way. The participants had to make a caricature of their office buddy. We received some really funny and interesting entries. Take a look at some of the entries.

Phani Tetali was invited to judge the contest. Phani is currently Professor at the IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay, India. He is a cartoonist, illustrator, comic book artist and animator. He also taught us more in detail about cartooning and caricatures. It was an enlightening session for all of us. Later, Macha Tomba from Rigging was declared as the winner of the contest.

We had also organised a screening of the Oscar nominated movie “Garden Party”. This film was the top voted short film from all the entries received for screening. Special Jury Mention at Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival 2017, this CGI collective work directed by six students from MOPA school tells the story of a gang of frogs running havoc in a gangster’s paradise. The ambience and the suspense look at Hitchcock and Chabrol, with a very documentary aesthetic. Produced by French studio Illogic.

This International Animation Day has indeed been very inspiring day.
